Pediatric Dentistry

Taking care of babies teeth from the beginning is imperative if you want your child to have healthy permanent teeth.
Your infant will have 20 baby teeth. These teeth will begin to erupt around six months of age. However, all babies are different with some not seeing the first tooth until they are 12 months old; it really depends on the child.
You should wipe your newborns gums after each feeding with a damp washcloth. You can also use a gauze pad soaked in water.
When you see the first tooth use a baby toothbrush and continue brushing as each tooth erupts.
Be careful with sugar in formulas and juices as too much can lead to baby bottle decay. In addition, try not to become dependent on pacifiers as they are not good for your child’s teeth and gums either.
LifeSmiles by Randy Mitchmore D.D.S. offers pediatric dentistry treatments that include:
Topical Fluoride
Dental Sealants
Root Canal Therapy
Dental Bonding
Keep Your Baby’s Teeth Healthy
The first time you feed your baby is first time you will clean your infant’s gums. Make sure you keep up the habit and introduce your baby to LifeSmiles in Houston when you feel it is necessary or after the first tooth erupts.
If you are unsure, contact Dr. Mitchmore and the LifeSmiles team for more information.
Chronic Pain
Chronic tooth pain is a sign of something more sinister. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Mitchmore if you notice any pain regardless of how severe it is.
Any pain is an indication that something is probably wrong with the inside of the tooth. Bacterial infections are common with tooth decay and need to be treated quickly to avoid an abscess and root canal therapy.
